Tires are worn out and unsafe with only 2/32" of tread. This does not mean to wait until that long. Tires should be replaced when they get below 4/32". You can check the depth of your tire tread by using what is in your pocket. With just a quarter and a penny you can determine the current depth of your tires. The measurement from the edge of a quarter and the top of George Washington's head is 4/32". Be sure that you check all treads on the tire. The wear of the tire could be uneven and although one measurement could be over 4/32" there may be zero tread on either an inside or outside edge. So no matter what kind of car you are driving, from a Honda, Toyota, Kia or Hyundai, tire measurements are all the same. Know when yours are unsafe.

This maintenance work not only includes oil changes, but other services such as transmission flushes, coolant flushes, tune ups, timing belts and all engine filters just to name a few. There are may causes to a "dead battery" in your car or truck. Most go bad simply by age. Most batteries last 5 years. You should have your "battery tested" at least with every time you have an "oil change". A battery can show signs of getting weak, or simply just fail. Other causes could be damage to the battery caused by over charging by the alternator. So when your Ford, Honda, Toyota or Chevrolet shows signs of "slow cranking" or "no start" have your "charging system check" done.

 

"Brake Safety Awareness Month" is in August. But since we are thinking about it, lets discuss brakes. Your brakes should be checked at least every other oil change which is when your tires should be rotated. The other signs would be "brakes squealing" or any other "brake noise" or "brake shutter". Stopping is not over rated. We need to stop our vehicles and brakes are the most important component in stopping. So no matter what brand vehicle you drive, Ford, Honda, Chevrolet, Hyundai, Kia or Toyota, you need to have your brakes checked.
